Portraits have the potential to tell a narrative about the subject in front of the lens. Photographs as objects have been in our lives from as early as we can remember visual memories. Portraiture is a dance between photographer and subject. I feel it's integral that the images being produced during this collaboration pays homage to the livelihood and character of the subject, as well as be visually interesting and purely intentional in photographic action.
It was not too long ago that I realized that candid portraiture doesn't mean careless triggering of a camera's shutter. As a photographer, I've learned to pick up on visual, verbal, and non-verbal cues between the subject and I. These manifest themselves into meaningful images that tell honest stories about a person, as well as carry a consistent visual language.
